Current Status: Firefighters made good progress on the fire with a modest growth of only 300 acres. Efforts continue to focus on structure protection while improving and holding existing fire line. Efforts are also aimed at line construction in the north and western boundaries of the fire which are in the wilderness areas. Water-dropping helicopters were also successful in providing support to firefighting efforts. Yesterday’s evening shift continued to make good progress on the fire with crews and engines. The fire size has reached 9,807 acres and containment is at 15 percent. No structures have been destroyed or damaged. The lightning-caused Crazy Horse Fire began on August 8th, 2003. There are 594 personnel assigned to the incident.

Evacuation Notification changes:
  • The fire activity advisory has been lifted on Highway 83 and east of Highway 83.
  • Residents of Pine Ridge, Underwood, and Lundberg can return home, however, the fire activity advisory remains in effect.
  • Residents on Kraft Creek, Triceritops, and South Scenic Drive can return home.
  • Residents on Stoner Creek and on Elk Creek remain in a mandatory evacuation status; with the exception of the Heekins Family.
  • For residents on Glacier Creek Road, Guest Ranch Road, Jette Road and Swanland Road, the fire activity advisory remains in effect.
These changes are effective Monday, August 18, 2003 at 8:00 a.m.
