The People and Natural Resources Team conducts research to increase our understanding of human and natural resource interactions in order to improve conditions for ecosystems, communities, and people. Building from a diverse array of social science expertise, our team addresses natural resource use and management issues pertaining to the following:
This work often occurs at an “all lands” scale across the urban to wildland gradient and involves diverse rural, urban, and tribal groups. We use a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, workshops, focus groups, and community-based participatory research methods. Our research contributes to scholarship, and informs land managers and policymakers in their efforts to use sound science in decision-making that better serves both public needs and forest and rangeland ecosystems.
