  • 2022 Rd Permit Reissues - Walker and Blackduck Districts

    Road permit reissues for permits expiring 12/31/2022

  • 4th Ave NE Road Permit

    New Road permit on an existing road.

  • Adams FR2065F Road Permit

    This permit will replace a permit issued for the same road to Jan and Patrick Adams in 1982. The Adams use FR2065F to access their private residence located in T. 57 N., R. 25 W., Sec. 18, Itasca County, Chippewa National Forest.

  • Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change on the Chippewa National Forest

    Research in red pine stands to study the effects of silvicultural treatements designed to increase forests resistance, resilience, and adaptability to climate change. Inside the LLBO reservation boundary.

  • Alvwood II Woodcock Habitat Improvement Project

    The Project treats about 20 acres of speckled alder/young aspen to improve woodcock habitat. The units would be sheared using equipment similar to a hydro-axe brush cutter.

  • Alvwood Woodcock Habitat Improvement Project

    The purpose of the project is to maintain and improve 37 acres of woodcock habitat in the Popple River Watershed.

  • Anderson road maintenance

    Issue permit to Private road in S32, T146, R26 This is not on the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation

  • Anway Trail Bridge Replacement

    The project will replace the existing Anway Trail Bridge on the North Country Trail with a new hiker/pedestrian bridge.

  • Arvig Hwy 38

    Installation and maintenance of 190 feet of fiber optic communications cable and the installation and maintenance of a BD5 pedestal in the Highway 38 corridor. This is outside the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation boundary.

  • Ash Diversification

    To maintain lowland forest cover and structure on the landscape by diversifying ash-dominated stands prior to the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer. This is a forest wide project which includes all of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation boundary.

  • Ash Diversification Collaboration Project

    Stands of ash with low species diversity were identified on NF lands and adjacent ownerships. Introduction of other species through harvest and regeneration, using a collaborative approach, is planned to minimize future effects of emerald ash borer.

    Salvage, Regeneration and site prep after a July 2012 windstorm

  • Bear Brook, Ball Club, and Holland Decommissioning

    Remove all control structures and wetland fill and re-vegetate to a natural condition. Bear Brook will be replaced with a suitable culvert or bridge that meets standards for aquatic organism passage.

  • Beaver Lodge Impoundment Restoration project

    Improve watershed conditions, reduce maintenance costs, and increase public safety by Impoundment including removing the control structure,culvert,and flood plain fill material and revegetating with native species.This is outside the LLBO reservation

  • Becker Rd Arvig Amend 7

    Installation and maintenance of 2558 feet of fiber optic communications cable. Installation and maintenance of BD5 pedestals and 24 x 36 inch vaults

  • Beltrami County CSAH 55 road rebuild

    Beltrami County has applied for an easement to rebuild CSAH 55 where it crosses Chippewa National Forest land in 3 places. The affected lands are located in Beltrami County, Chippewa National Forest and outside the Leech Lake Reservation administrat

  • Beltrami County, CSAH 39 Easement and Workspace

    The proposal is part of the final reconstruction of CSAH 39 (Lady Slipper Highway), and the segment on National Forest System land is on the east side of the highway for approx. 0.25 miles on the very northern end of the route.

  • Beltrami County- CSAH 22 reconstruction

    Reconstruct a portion of CSAH 22 to a bituminous surface with a 12 ft lane and a 4 ft shoulder with additional slope easements.

  • Beltrami Electric Amend 48

    Removal of above ground power line and removing line from the permit. on reservation.

  • Beltrami Electric Coop amendment 40

    Install approx. 1350 feet of underground electric line in NWSE of S22, T146N, R30W and remove overhead lines and poles in Lot 3, S21, T146N, R30W.

  • Beltrami Electric Norway Beach Campground

    Installation of electrical cable service from existing Wanaki Loop transformer to new transformer and service connect in Wanaki Loop; located behind site 151. Work completed with plow and direct bury of cable.

  • Beltrami Electric Star Island Project

    Improvements to the existing facilities located on Star Island which is located in the counties of Cass and Beltrami. Proposed improvements include replacing 4.3 miles of single-phase overhead pole line. Project is within LLBO boundary.

  • Beltrami Electric- Amendment 46

    WO 18561, 18535, and 18536 are requesting to remove overhead lines and install a total of 6830 ft of buried 7.2kV electric distribution line and 7010 ft of buried 12470kV electric distribution line.

  • Bena Bike Trail

    SUP authorization within US Hwy 2 ROW along the old road corridor. Trail: 995 feet long x 12 feet wide across NFS lands; some timber removal needed in corridor.

  • Bena Trail Expansion

    Paved 10' Trail West of Bena. Includes clearing approximately half an acre of National Forest System lands.

  • Big Rice Gravel Pit

    Establishment of Big Rice gravel pit near Big Rice Lake by Remer Mn. Not on LL reservation.

  • Big Rice Lake EAB Bundle 2024

    In response to EAB being detected at Big Rice Lake we are proposing a project that would include up to 250 acres of salvage harvests, up to 250 acres of sanitation harvests, planting of native species, and the release of parasidtoids.

  • Big Rock Lot 3- Harbor Dredging

    Dredge the Harbor and deposit dredge material on FS land. The deposit location for the dredging material is the same as a previous dredging project

  • Birch Lake Tornado

    Salvage, site preparation and regeneration of up to 250 acrees of Tornado damaged stands. Outside the LLBO reservation boundary.

  • Blackduck Oak Habitat Improvement Project

    Remove stems from multi-stemmed oaks by hand using a brush saw, chainsaw, or similar equipment. In stands where oak stump sprouts are competing with other deciduous trees, the competing saplings would also be cut to release the oak.

  • Blackduck Ranger Station Updates

    Decommisioning and disposal of the existing North and south warehouses, oil shed, and pesticide shed at the Blackduck Ranger Station and the construction of new buildings as replacements.

  • Blackduck Ruffed Grouse Habitat Improvement Project

    Improve habitat for ruffed grouse and other early successional species through patch clearcutting aspen (about 366 acres) and thinning white spruce plantations (about 117 acres) along and near Hunter Walking Trails.

  • Blake Cabin Decks East Beach #18

    Deck work on Blake Recreation Residence; Start Island East Beach tract, Lot #18. Remove 8%u2019x10%u2019 deck off front of cabin and add 5%u2019x14%u2019 deck on back of cabin.

    Installation of Fiber Optic Cable on NFS lands This project is within the boundary of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation.

  • Blowdown Restoration Project

    July 2012 wind storm resulted in approximately 20,000 acres of moderate/severe blowdown. Project focuses on ecosystem restoration, some salvage, reforestation activities, and landscape level burns.

  • Boardwalk Trail Segment Project, Lady Slipper Scenic Byway

    Construction of an elevated 4-foot-wide boardwalk trail (221 feet long) that connects to another trail on the bog loop in the wetland. The boardwalk is adjacent to a new wayside rest area on the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway.

  • Bowen Lodge Issuance of Marina Permit

    This proposal is for the issuance of a new special use authorization for a new term to replace an expired authorization for a marina on Lake Winnibegoshish.

  • Boy River 2 Resource Management Project

    Vegetation management that includes timber harvest, prescribed fire, wildlife, watershed, and transportation system management activities.

  • Brosius Decks and Garage Project

    Issue approval to build two decks on the front and back of the cabin as well as a new garage. The Leech Lake band of Ojibwe tract of summer homes are eligible for National Register Status.

  • Buck Club Road Assn FR3368 Permit

    This permit will authorize Buck Club Road Association to use and maintain existing FR3368 and a private driveway to access private property. Located in Itasca County, outside the Leech Lake Reservation administrative boundary.

  • Bud Lake Woodcock Habitat Improvement Project

    Maintenance and improvement of 12 acres of woodcock habitat in the Portage Creek watershed. This includes shearing decadent alder and allowing it to regenerate. This project would be completed in winter under frozen ground conditions.

  • Burzinski Septic Installation

    This decision will modify a recreation resident special permit to allow the installation of new mound septic system on Lot 15 North Star Lake Summer Home Group.

  • Camp Fire USA building reroof and gate

    Replace roof on craft center building. Place locked gate on FR2065E at permitted area boundary

  • Cass County 157 & 128 Easements and Workspace

    The proposal is to widen and regrade segments of CSAH 157 and 128, to allow for safer passage and to improve drainage for the existing roadway. The proposed area on National Forest System (NFS) land for CR 157 is approx. 2.03 miles.

  • Cass Lake East CE

    salvage, site preparation, and regeneration of storm-damaged timber stands

  • Century Link Telephone Line

    This permit will authorize Century Lint to install phone line in the existing road and power line right-of-way across National Forest land.

  • Chippewa National Forest Tree Seed Collection

    Cut approximately 100 trees per year for 5 years (late summer to fall). Trees will average 5-10" DBH. Any tree species is available for seed collection. Trees may be climbed to gather seed. Tree seed may be collected from ground-level.

  • Collaborative Ash Diversification Project

    The primary activity is harvesting and planting other tree species in ten lowland black ash stands to improve species diversity in anticipation of potential mortality by the emerald ash borer. Collaborative project with LLBO,MN DNR,County,USFS.

  • Continental Divide Resource Management

    Timber sale and related reforestation and timber stand improvement projects in the Continental Divide area of the Blackduck Ranger District. Also includes updating of the transportation system and small projects in other resource areas.

  • County Road 33 (Mission Road) Reconstruction

    County Road 33 will be widened and have 6 corners straightened. Wider shoulders will be made. This is a cooperative analysis between Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Beltrami County, the State, and the Forest Service.

  • CSAH 45 Reconstruct and Easement

    About 4.3 miles of the existing CSAH 45 alignment will be regarded, realigned to meet current design standards and complete the connection between Trunk Highway 38 and Scenic Hwy 7. Project is outside the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation.

  • CSAH 53 Bridge Replacement

    Replacing a bridge on CSAH 53 aprox 9 miles northwest of Remer, MN

  • Cuba Hill Impoundment Rx Burn

    conduct a 53 acre prescribed burn to reduce the dense emergent vegetation to create openings to offer better staging habitat and increase the diversity of forage for waterfowl.

  • Cut Foot Area Salvage

    This project would include salvaging wood, site preparation, and regeneration of forest stands affected in the August 9, 2020 wind event. This is within the boundary of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation.

    Issue new 20 year permit to Jake and Amanda Perrington, dba Cut Foot Sioux Inn Resort, as a new permittee upon their purchase of the Resort. The resort is within the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation.

    Remodel cabin 1 with new siding, windows, deck and roof to match the other cabins on the resort. Reconfigure resort playground area by repositioning it and building a 20'x24' open-air pavilion with concrete floor.

    Install approximately 1320 feet of underground telephone line 55 feet from centerline of North side of Hwy 200, east of Walker, MN. Project is within the Leech Lake Reservation.

    Installation and maintenance of 15,556 feet of fiber optic cable and pedestals using a vibratory plow or directional bore under roadways and water ways. Much of the line listed is existing and is planned to be upgraded to better meet the demands.

    East Ottertail Telephone Arvig is requesting to install fiber optic communications cable and pedestals in the existing corridor for a length of 17,459 feet. Within the external boundary of the LLBO reservation.

    Removal and revegetation of six non-functioning impoundments on the Deer River Ranger District.

  • Ebeling Shed Installation

    Issue approval for new 16x25 shed at a recreation residence located on Star Island, tract Norway Bluff Lot #14. This recreation residence is under permit with the Chippewa National Forest, in Beltrami County, located at T145N R31W Sec. 34

    Eckert Road Permit Request near Johnson Lake. This project is completely outside the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation boundary.

  • Edge of the Wilderness Resort and Visitor Center Permit issuance

    The old Marcell Ranger district facilities have been operating under a special use permit issued to Northern Joint Itasca Powers Board since 2014. Edge of wilderness Discovery Center has taken over the operations resulting in new permit.

  • Edgren Shed & Porch Project

    This permit will authorize the Edgren's to construct a screened porch and storage shed on their leased recreation residence lot on National Forest land.

  • Edminster cabin addition and shed replacement

    Issue permit to Ron and Kathy Edminster to add onto cabin and replace shed. This is located within the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation.

  • Enbridge CAL401926 Temporary Permit Maintenance Dig

    3 maintenance digs on Line 4. 2.5 acre temporary workspace and access outside of the current permit area for a 1 year term with vegetative restoration. All wetland areas will be fully matted with wood timber mats. no tree removal greater than 6 inch

  • Enbridge Line 3 Decommissioning Project Hand Auger Testing

    Hand auger testing at 8 locations along the Line 3 decomissioning project. These tests a for the future removal of sections of the original Line 3 pipeline

    The Forest Staff has made initial determinations as to which wildlife openings will be actively managed. Management plans will be developed for the selected openings with consultation, collaboration, and internal and external review.

  • Four 10-Year Bear Guide Permits

    FSH 2709.14.53.1(q) directs forest units to convert holders of 1- year guide and outfitter permits to 10-year permits. Four 1-year permits will be converted to 10-year terms. All additional terms contained in the permits remain the same.

  • Grass Lake CE

    salvage, site preparation, and regeneration of storm-damaged timber stands

  • Great Rive Energy Soil Boring

    geo-technical soil boring at 4 locations which will temporarily use 10,000 sq ft of land within existing utility corridors. 3" diameter and up to 50' down for boring holes. No waste material left on site. Holes backfilled with native soil.

  • Great River Energy Amendment 15

    Rebuilding and maintaining approximately 4.4 miles of transmission line. Replace existing poles with taller poles, heavier conductor wire and shield wire will be utilized to enable monitoring and communication with the electric grid.

    Reissuance of 1 expired permit for multiple powerlines throughout the CNF. Improvements already on the ground. Changes to existing operations and facilities will not be authorized.

  • Greater MN Transmission LLC Pipeline Permit Request

    New permit to install 3 inch natural gas pipeline along 371 corridor. Disturbance on National Forest System lands will be 30 feet wide by 376 feet long, or approximately 0.33 acres. No timber will be removed.

  • Greely Pit and Jessie Pit Prospecting

    Prospecting to determine the existence of minerals inside and adjacent to the currently active USFS Greely and Jessie Gravel Pits. Prospecting will be performed using an excavator. No tree cutting. Low brush disturbance. Within LLBO reservation.

  • Greiner Septic System

    Installation of new septic system on Recreation Residence lot under Special Use Permit; Big Rock Addition Tract, Lot #2. Involves pump and fill of old tank, new 1500 combo tank, and new mound.

  • Highbanks#8 Cabin Addition

    Permittee proposes to build addition to existing cabin. Existing cabin is 640 square feet. The proposed addition would be 20%u2019x12%u2019 (24 sq. ft.) and located to the NE side. No grading will be required. Project is within LLBO boundary.

  • Highway 2 Corridor Improvement Project

    Construct 3 passing lanes, several turn lanes, and thin stands on south side of Highway 2 from Cass Lake to Ball Club to improve safety conditions. FS to issue easement along Hwy 2 corridor to MnDOT.

  • Holmgren Septic Replacement request

    The Holmgrens need to replace the septic system for their cabin on Lot 7, Little Cut Foot Sioux Tract. The lot is within the Leech Lake Reservation administrative boundary.

  • Holt FR2308 Road Permit

    This permit will authorize use, maintenance and widening of existing FR2308 to allow the Holts to access their private property. This location is outside the Leech Lake Reservation administrative boundary.

  • Horn Windows

    Request to replace windows on a cabin on a permitted recreation resident lot, North Sioux Tract, Lot 5 This project is located within the LLBO Reservation

  • Howard Lake Road- Cass County 83 realignment

    Reconstruction and realignment of County Road 83 to improve public safety.

  • Hwy 2 Shading Project

    The Chippewa National Forest proposes to thin evergreen trees along the south side of Trunk Highway 2. The treatments are designed to reduce shading which results in low road surface temperatures and decreases the effectiveness of road salt.

  • Install fiber optic cable for the Bigfork Hospital
