Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests Project Archive

  • 1993 Final Oil and Gas Leasing EIS and Record of Decision

    Amended Forest Plan to make lands available for oil and gas leasing on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests.

  • 2014 Pro-Cycle Challenge

    2014 Pro-Cycyle challenge is a professional bike race with 128 entrants. The course varies each year utilizing US Highways, State and County roads as it crosses 4 National Forests this year between August 18 and 26.

  • 2015 Bicycle Tours of Colorado

    Special use authorization is for Bicycle Tour of Colorado (BTC) to make temporary use of NFS lands on 3 National Forests within Colorado for ancillary aid stations with portable toilets, signs, trash facilities and support personnel

  • 2015 Taylor Park Silvicultural CE

    Precommercial and commercial thinning, and sanitation of dwarf mistletoe infested lodgepole pine stands to maintain acceptable growth rates and stand health on up to 250 acres. Project is in Taylor Park between Cottonwood Pass Road and Willow Crk.

  • 2017 Flat Top Mountain Riparian/Wet Meadow Habitat Restoration

    The proposed action is to maintain existing rock structures and build new small rock structures to address cut banks and erosion occurring within Gunnison Sage-Grouse brood-rearing habitat.

  • 2018 Black Sage Gravel Pit Expansion

    Expansion of the Black Sage Gravel Pit on Black Sage Pass to provide gravel material for road maintenance, construction, and recreation-related projects in the White Pine/Waunita area.

  • 2018 Cone Collecting for Reforestation

    Collect and store tree seeds of various species and seed zones for the purpose of future tree planting that may be needed to respond to ecological or restoration needs.

  • 2018 Flat Top and Black Sage Habitat Restoration Project

    Maintain existing erosion control structures and build new small rock structures to address erosion occurring in drainages and meadow habitat in the Flat Top Mountain and Black Sage Pass area.

  • 2018 Spruce Bark Beetle Trap Tree Treatment

    Minimize the spread of bark beetle populations in localized, small scale, high value areas through the use of trap trees.

  • 2019 Outfitter/Guide Permit Reissuance (GURD)

    Reissue 15 existing 10 year permits

  • 2020 Kebler Winter Trailhead Parking

    The construction of an additional parking lot adjacent to and north of Gunnison County Road #12 at what is known as the Kebler Pass Winter Trailhead. The lot will primarily be used as an area for additional winter vehicle parking.

  • 2020 Outfitter/Guide permit reissuance

    The Forest Service has proposed the reissuance of exsisting prioirty outiftter/guide permits expiring 5/31/2020. Permit term will be for 10 years (expiring 5/31/2030), unless otherwise specified.

  • 2021 CBMR Trails: Hotdogger Expansion & Lower Avery Re-route

    The Gunnison Ranger District is proposing to authorize Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) to enhance two trails within the permitted ski area boundary: Hotdogger Expansion and Lower Avery Re-route.

  • 2021 Clear Networx LLC Special Use Authorization

    Clear Networx LLC has applied to construct and operate approximately 401 feet of fiber optic cable on the Norwood Ranger District in the Ilium Valley directly adjacent to the Two Rivers Subdivision.

  • 2021 Flat Top Mountain Wet Meadow Habitat Restoration

    Address erosion occurring in intermittent or ephemeral drainages and meadow habitats by maintaining existing erosion control structures and building new small rock structures (hand built and using heavy equipment).

  • 2021 Spring Creek Reservoir Dam Outlet Works Rehabilitation

    CPW would construct a 625-foot access road to the dam%u2019s outlet, repairs/upgrades of the outlet pipe, and installation of a new gate stem and controller along with a reinforced grade beam with instrumentation for monitoring.

  • 2022-2023 Trail Creek Beaver Habitat Work

    Phase 2. Restore historic wetlands, reconnect the floodplain to the stream, build fish habitat, provide wildlife habitat, create fire brakes, and bolster drought resiliency. To achieve the objectives, we will continue building instream structures.

  • 401 / Trailriders Trail Project

    Relocate a short portion of trail off of provate land onto the NF

  • 403 Trail Relocation, NFSR #811 Road Easement

    Relocate NFST #403 off of private lands at Elkton townsite.

  • 63L and Ophir Road Fiber Optic Project

    Deeply Digital proposes to install on behalf of Clearnetworx approximately 7087 feet of fiber optic line on USFS lands adjacent to HWY 63L, Ames and Ophir Roads pending approval from San Miguel County and CDOT.

  • Absolute Prestige Limousine Service, LTD Shuttle Permit

    Conduct mountain bike shuttles to 3 designated locations (Mesa Top, Shirt Tail Point, Wild Rose) on the Grand Mesa National Forest. Service supports trail opportunities on the Palisade Plunge Trail. Season is trail official opening to September 30.

  • Adrenaline Driven Adventures - Outfitter and Guide Special Use Permit Proposal

    Proposal for a commercial outfitter and guide priority special use permit to conduct guided OHV tours on the Uncompahgre and Grand Mesa National Forest. Forest System roads will be authorized with 500 service days for daily tours.

  • Adventure Cycling Association Ten-year Outfitter and Guide Permit Issuance

    Issuance of a ten year outfitter and guide permit to Adventure Cycling Association to authorize multiple cycling tours to operate annually on National Forest System Lands across the Rocky Mountain Region.

  • Adventure Experiences Land Exchange

    A proposal to exchange four parcels of isolated NFS lands totaling approximately 377 acres in the Illinois Creek area of Taylor Park for 160 acres on the Kebler Pass road west of Crested Butte.

  • Agricultural Irrigation and Livestock Watering System (aka Ditch Bill) Easements

    The GVRD received 170 applications for easements on existing water facilities. Qualifying facilities receive an easement but additional terms can be added to OM Plan to protect resources. Decision/implementation to occur next several months.

  • Agricultural Irrigation and Livestock Watering System (aka Ditch Bill) Easements

    Gunnison RD received 80 applications for easements on existing water facilities. Qualifying facilities receive an easement but additional terms can be added to OM Plan to protect resources. Decision/implementation to occur next several months.

  • Agricultural Irrigation and Livestock Watering System (aka Ditch Bill) Easements

    The Paonia RD received 53 ditch bill applications on existing water facilities. 19 easements completed/11 applications denied thus far in the process. Decision/implementation to occur over the next few months.

  • Alpine Plateau Radio Repeater

    Installation and maintenance of a new Forest Service/Bureau of Land Management radio repeater on Alpine Plateau

  • Alpine Tunnel ARRA project

    The project involves installing new interpretive signs, stabilizing historic stone structures, stabilizing the stone west portal and entrance to the Alpine Tunnel, and some rerouting sections of trail.

  • Alvarez Easement

    Access to private land near Sargents, CO

  • Anderson Gravel Pit

    Continued use of the existing Anderson Gravel Pit for the purpose of excavating, crushing , stockpiling, and performing reclamation of the pit floor.

  • Anderson Pit Development Plan

    Refresh NEPA and Pit Development Plan

  • Anthracite Creek Trail Bridge (previously Kebler Wagon Trail Project)

    Install/construct 50'x6' trail bridge over Ruby-Anthracite Creek on the Paonia Ranger District extending NFST #606 to the west towards Horseranch Park

  • Aspen-Sopris Ranger District Five Year Recreation Event Special Use Permit Issuance

    Issuance of five year recreation event permits to authorize 11 recreation events to operate on the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District. Events have been authorized in prior years under temporary permits. Events are running, mountain bike, jeep, and ski.

  • Athena Adventures, LLC - Temporary Recreation Event

    Proposal for a temporary special use permit to conduct a competitive trekking, biking, and paddle in the Big Creek area of Uncompahgre National Forest.

  • Axia Energy II, LLC, USA #1-16SC Well Pad Expansion

    Expansion of existing USA #1-16SC well pad, drilling two new wells on the well pad, and construction/installation of approximately 1.37 miles of buried natural gas and water lines along the Buzzard Divide Road (NFSR 265). Ownership change 9/2016.

  • Baldy Mountain Landscape Resiliency and Habitat Improvement Project

    The primary purpose of this project is to move the landscape toward a more natural state and thus improve wildlife habitat for multiple species by implementing mechanical vegetation, hand thinning and prescribed fire treatments.

  • Barbiere Wedding Permit

    Authorize a permit for a wedding ceremony in "Deb's Meadow." On hundred twenty-two guests will sit in the meadow to observe the wedding ceremony.

  • Barret

    Proposal is to perform timber stand improvement and prescribed burning to improve range and wildlife habitat and reduce natural fuels.

  • Barret Spring Development Permit Issuance

    Daniel and Katherine Readon are requesting to be permitted for Barret Spring Development and pipeline on National Forest System lands. The Readons have an existing State conditional water right for this development.

  • BATTLEMENTS FUELS/SAD RESEARCH

    Continuation of prescribed fire program with emphasis on regenerating aspen apparently killed by S.A.D. Will also benefit fuels and wildlife

  • Baxter Gulch Trail #565

    This project is part of a Public Lands/Private Lands partnership to reconstruct the old Baxter Gulch trail from near the town of Crested Butte to an intersection with the Carbon Trail #436.

  • Bear Creek Trail (NFST 241, 241.1A, 242) Deferred Maintenance

    Restore a single travelway for all sections of the Bear Creek Trail while providing for visitor safety and resource sustainability. This includes re-establishing the tread, reducing erosion, and rehabilitating impacted areas.

  • Bear Creek Trail Connection

    Construction of a new trail segment on NFS lands in Bear Creek drainage(300 feet in length)in order to facilitate completion of a 6-mile trail loop on neighboring non-NFS lands.

  • Beaver Park Gravel Pit

    GMUG proposes to use large equipment to remove and crush up to 20,000 tons of up to three foot diameter rock for the production of class 5 gravel within the bounds of the Beaver Park Gravel Pit on the Norwood Ranger District.

  • Beckwith, Squirrel Creek, Price Creek, Little Castle & Thornton Allotments

    Implement more intensive grazing system for livestock and prescribed burn plan to increase openings and forage production for livestock and wildife

  • Big Battlement Reservoir Ancillary Dam Repair Project

    Install filter drain, repair seepage, and raise crest of Ancillary Dam. Borrow 1000 cubic yards of gravel from location adjacent to dam.

  • Big Dominguez Creek Cutthroat Trout Translocation Project

    Establish native cutthroat trout population in 16 miles of Dominguez Creek and 1 tributary.

  • Bill Trampe Ranches Land Exchange

    Upper Gunnison Basin Land Exchange EA completed in 1998; expect to rescope during thee first half of Cy2004

  • Black Hills Energy Authorization Re-Issuances

    Black Hills Energy purchased Source Gas. Re-issue permits to BHE for the Redvale to Olathe 10 inch gas line; Montrose Expansion Project Distribution Line.

  • Black Mesa Project

    Proposed treatments would regenerate certain aspen stands which are in decline or affected by Sudden Aspen Decline (SAD)

  • Black Sage Pass Borrow Pit Expansion

    Expansion of existing borrow pit to generate fill material for mine

  • Black Sage Pass Salvage

    Salvage of beetle killed ponderosa pine.

  • Blanche Park Reservoir Dam Reconstruction Project

    Issuance of short-term special use permit for rebuilding of existing dam and construction of access route.

  • Blixt Road Reciprocal ROW project.

    Reciprocal right-of-way project on the Blixt Road.

  • Block & Tackle Trail Alignment

    Realignment of trail to eliminate a steep section of the Block & Tackle trail. (Approx. 750 - 1000 feet) Trail obliteration and restoration of the abandoned section of trail.

  • Bonham Reservoir Area

    Atkinson Reservoir, Cottonwood 1, Bonham Pipeline, Lambert, and East fork, Cottonwood #5 Borrow sites.

  • Bonham Winter Trailhead

    Project involves the improvement and/or possible relocation of the Bonham Winter Trailhead to increase parking, improve traffic flow and address safety concerns.

  • Boomerang Bridge Replacement

    The current, temporary railroad car Boomerang Bridge does not meet engineering standards and is scheduled for replacement. Design completed 2023.

  • Bowie Coal Lease Exploration License

    THIS IS A BLM PROJECT AND WILL NOT SHOW UP ON FUTURE SOPAs. Gunnison County-North of Paonia-BLM Lead Agency Expected Decision Maker: BLM

  • Bowie Resources, Hubbard Creek Ventilation/Escape Shaft

    The Grand Mesa-Uncompahgre-Gunnison National Forests (GMUG) is reviewing a proposal from Bowie Resources, L.L.C. (Bowie), to construct and operate a ventilation shaft / emergency escapeway on National Forest System lands.

  • Box Canyon Sign Special Use Permit

    Replace old Special Use Permit for operating and maintaining the Box Canyon sign with a new permit and operation/maintenance plan.

  • Boy Scouts of America Recreation Event - 5 Year

    Continuation of Special Use Permit that utilizes less than 5 contiguous acres for purpose of winter youth camping, shooting , and survival skills event.

  • Brush Creek Toilet

    Proposed installation of a vault toilet at 'tent city', a large dispersed camping area. Approximately, 0.5 mile up Brush Creek (NFS road 738).

  • Buckhorn Gulch Mechanical Treatment

    Big Game Habitat Improvement & Fuels Treatment Project.

  • Bucktail Creek Rx

    Funding for NEPA isn't available until further notice.

  • Bull Draw Fire Fence Construction- Phase Two

    Approximately 3 miles of new fence will be constructed along the adjoining. BLM, Norwood and Grand Valle Ranger District FS Boundaries, to replace/relocate fences burned in the Bull Draw Fire in 2018. The objective is to improve grazing management.

  • Bull Mountain Pipeline Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project

    A 295-acre area will be treated by mechanical means (roller chop, hydro-axe, mower, or similar) and/or prescribed fire to improve forage quality and quantity for elk and other ungulates. Seeding will occur as needed.

  • Bull Mountain Unit Geophysical Study

    Drive vibrating trucks along NFSR 849 and access road to well pad in T.11S R.90W,Section 15. Hand-place above-ground stakes to study Bull Mountain Unit geology under private lands. No ground disturbance expected. Studies to last approximately 20 days

  • Bureau of Reclamation Weather Station permit re-issuance

    Re-issue permit for 4 existing weather stations.

  • Burro Park Gravel Pit Development

    Development of a gravel pit near Burro Park to provide gravel material for road maintenance, construction, timber removal, and recreation-related projects in the Cochetopa area near National Forest System Road 794.

  • Burwell Spring

    Application to authorize previously constructed spring development and pipeline to serve private property inholding.

  • Calamity Basin Pine restoration and mastication

    Project will mechanically treat 675 acres of historic pine plantation in Calamity basin. This will occur in the summer of 2015 and will improve big game and winter range and improve habitat for other species.

    Application to issue a Temporary Outfitter and Guide permit for fall photography on the Grand Valley, Ouray, Gunnison, and Paonia Ranger Districts.

  • Canyon Creek Avalanche Control

    Issue Special Use Permit for one year to Silver Star Mining Operations LLC for avalanche control along Canyon Creek Road, NFSR 853 up to the Revenue Mine.

  • Canyon Creek Campgrounds Redesign

    This project proposes to decommission several poorly planned and maintained camp sites, while adding new sites in more desirable areas. Primary objectives are to remove health and safety issues, reduce deferred maintenance, and ADA compliance.

    Installation of a 12ft gate on permit area boundary and administrative route for recreation residence GUN708.

  • Cathedral Peak Route Restoration 2019

    Proposal to improve watershed conditions along an unauthorized route near Cathedral Peak south of Crawford on the Paonia Ranger District. The route is to be recontoured, revegetated, and left as a single track nonmotorized nonsystem trail.

  • CBMBA Fat Bike Grooming

    Proposal to groom 37.3 total miles of trail for multiple winter uses. Including 9.4 m. in the Mt. Crested Butte areas of N. Village, Gothic and CBMR; 9.9 m. in the Brush Creek area; and 18 m. in the Cement Creek drainage.

  • CBMR Electrical Transformer (Peach Tree Lift)

    Replacement and minor relocation of an electrical transformer for the Peach Tree Lift at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

  • CBMR Facilities 2022

    1)Tree removal and grading for a concrete pad to seat a cooling system for new compressors at the Snowflake Control building, plus storage space. 2) A 1000 lb. propane tank would be buried near the Paradise Hut.

  • CBMR Mountain Bike Skills Park

    At the Top of Red Lift, in an area previously analyzed for the Red Lady Lodge, a mountain bike skills park would be constructed for beginner and intermediate mountain bike riders.

  • CBMR Mountain Bike Trail Additions

    Approximately 1.75 miles of new trail construction on 4 segments of trail within the CBMR permit boundary would be constructed by hand and the use of a tracked machine.

  • CBMR Mountain Bike Trail Construction

    A beginner mountain bike trail in the Smith Hill Area, a down hill trail in the Uley's Cabin Area, and an extension of Pyscho Rocks Trail would be constructed with the use of a rubber tracked machine and hand construction.

  • CBMR Summit Trail Reconstruction

    Reroute approximately 700 feet of trail on the Summit Trail within CBMR's permit boundary, using hand tools. The reroute would avoid a heavily eroded area that creates safety issues for trail users. The reroute would contour the adjacent hillside.

  • CBMR Teocalli 2 Egress

    A 20 ft wide winter route would be developed by removing trees to allow for egress from Teocalli 2 Bowl.

  • CBMR Yurt Installation

    At the Top of Painter Boy Lift, a 35 foot diameter yurt would be constructed to house the terrain park staff and ski patrol.

  • Cedar Mesa Trail Reroute

    Reroute of Cedar Mesa ATV trail off the dam of Calumet Reservoir to more suitable location.

  • Cement Creek - Snowplow Permit

    Reissuance of snowplow permit for access to private land.

  • Cement Creek Ditches Special Use Permit

    Issue special use permit for two existing ditches: Jones Highline and Adams Cement Creek

  • Cement Creek Summer Home Group Lots I & J Septic System Replacement

    Septic system replacement for two adjacent recreation residences, Lot I and J, of the Cement Creek Summer Home Group.

  • Cement Creek Summer Home Group Lots, D, DD, and M wells

    Forest is proposing to authorize the drilling of three domestic wells on recreation residence lots in the Cement Creek Summer Home Group.

  • Cement Creek Trail Project

    Relocation of trail out of wetland. Up to 8700 lineal feet.

  • Cement Creek: Fenceline Trail (Mechanized)

    Construction of a non-motorized trail (~4.8 miles) adjacent to Cement Creek Road NFSR 740. This trail would provide a option for non-motorized users to get off the on a narrow, busy road, reducing safety concerns.

  • Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies, Amendment #9 (OUR476)

    CSAS conducts field monitoring and observations of climatic and physical factors effecting snowpack and snowmelt in the Senator Beck Study Basin in the San Juan Mountains through a User Agreement with the GMUG. Amendment adds facilities.

  • Century Link & GCEA Jack's Cabin Cutoff Line

    Installation and management of a new fiber optic cable on the existing GCEA power line adjacent to Jack's Cabin Cutoff Road (CR/NFSR 813).

  • Century Link: Taylor Park Trading Post

    Placement of a 2" conduit from the NFSR 742 and 765 intersection to the Taylor Park Trading Post. Approximately 900 feet.

  • CenturyLink Fiber Optic Install to Comstock Communication Site

    CenturyLink is proposing to bury 2.3 miles/12,144 feet of new 2-inch underground fiber optic line within FSR 810 and FSR 810.1A ROWs to connect Comstock Mountain Communication Site to the fiber optic network already existing on the adjacent CR 813.

  • City of Ouray Domestic Water Supply Permit

    Amend existing special use permit for City's Domestic Water System in Canyon Creek to remove facilities no longer in existence and to add new facilities

  • City of Ouray Water Utility Infastructure Construction

    Construct 500,000 gallon water tank, new treatment building raw water supply line and transmission pipeline.

  • Clay Creek Travel Implementation

    Implementation of 2002 travel management.

  • Clear Fork Muddy Creek Fish Barrier

    As part of a native cutthroat trout restoration project, the Paonia Ranger District and CPW are proposing to construct a permanent fish barrier across the Clear Fork of Muddy Creek.

  • Cochetopa Hills Vegetation Management Project

    This project will provide forest management at a landscape scale in the Cochetopa Hills portion of the Gunnison Ranger District to meet various Forest Plan objectives.

  • Cochetopa Landscape Assessment

    Development of a new management plan for grazing of livestock on the Cochetopa, Cold Springs, Los Pinos and Razor Range Land Allotments

  • Cold Springs Ranger Station Improvement

    Project is to make improvements and repairs on buildings and infrastructure associated with the Cold Springs Ranger Station. Project involves upgrading the water system, installation of a solar system and a variety of maintenance items on cabins.

  • Collbran Development, Inc., Sewer Line Special Use Permit

    Issuance of a special use permit for an existing sewer line crossing the Collbran Job Corps Center lands.

  • Collbran Valley Gas Gathering, LLC, Special Use Permit

    Issuance of special use permit to Collbran Valley Gas Gathering, LLC, for approximately 1600 feet of existing natural gas pipeline on the Collbran Job Corp Center

  • Colorado Army National Guard Winter Training

    Issue a five year special use permit authorizing the Colorado Army National Guard to conduct winter training activities out of the Mesa Top Trailhead on the Grand Mesa National Forest.

  • Colorado Boy Abandoned Mine Closure Project (Ouray Hazardous Mines Closure Project)

    Proposed to physically close 12 abandoned mine sites in Cutler Creek,Twin Peaks & Hwy 550 south of Ouray.

  • Colorado Public Broadcasting Communication Use Lease Amendment

    Forest Service proposed to amend the existing communications use lease held by Colorado Public Broadcasting to allow installation of a propane tank and back up generator at the Mesa Point Communications Site.

  • Columbine Gravel Pit Development Plan

    Decision tiers off Columbine OHV Recreation Area decision and adopts a pit develepment plan.

  • Columbine OHV Recreation Area

    Proposal to develop an OHV recreation complex, including a campground, day-use area, open riding area or skills park, connections to existing and planned OHV routes, and an interpretive sign associated with a geologic study site.

  • Comstock Communication Site - Gunnison Metro Recreation District

    Replacement of existing tower

  • Comstock Communications Site - Gunnison County

    Addition of 8'x12' pre-constructed building and additional 20' tower on existing tower to accomodate state 800 Digital Trunked Radio System.

  • Cone Collection for Reforestation

    Tree cone collection for reforestation purposes on the Gunnison Ranger District.

  • Construction of new trailheads

    New ATV trailheads to be constructed at Owns Creek 'Corrals, Bonham reservoir Kiosk and the Green Mountain trail (2 locations)

  • Continental Divide National Scenic Trail Addition
