Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA)

Produced four times a year, this report shows the public proposed projects for the next three months under the provisions of NEPA. The information is displayed in table format by the administrative unit (Region, Forest, or District) responsible for the proposal.

We want to hear from you! The 36 CFR 218 process builds on early participation and collaboration efforts, with the intention of resolving concerns before a decision is made.

  • Geotechnical Drilling

    Three bridges need to be replaced on the Francis Marion and Long Cane Ranger Districts. Prior to replacing the bridges, borings need to be drilled to ensure proper support of the bridge designs.

    We proposed prescribed burning activity on approximately 41,000 acres across the Andrew Pickens Ranger District.

    Renewal of existing Priority Use Outfitter Guide Permits on the Andrew Pickens Ranger District

  • AP Forest Health Thinning

    The Forest Service is considering a project that would include a mix of commercial and non-commercial thinning silvicuture activities on approximately 2,000 acres of National Forest.

  • AP FY24 Pre-commercial Thinning

    The Forest Service is proposing to pre-commercial thin approximately 511 acres of timber. No mechanized equipment would be used, only hand tools.

Enoree Ranger District

  • Enoree Palmetto Trail Re-route

    The Enoree District plans to relocate 6.3 miles of the Palmetto trail from forest service roads to the wooded area.

  • Enoree River Canoe Launch

    Dominion Energy SC in conjunction with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will construct a canoe launch at the Keitts Bridge on the Enoree River in Union County, SC.

  • Fairforest Analysis Area

    The Forest Service is proposing to harvest timber, improve stream and wetland habitat, decommission roads, improve recreation areas, and restore and maintain gullies on approximately 10,000 acres.

  • Piedmont Prescribed Fire

    The Enoree and Long Cane Ranger Districts are proposing to use landscape-level prescribed fire on approximately 300,000 acres to reduce woody fuel levels and to improve habitat.

  • SCDOT Bridge Replacement US 176 Padgetts Creek

    Federal Highways Bridge Replacement over Padgetts Creek.

Francis Marion Ranger District

  • ABC Land Exchange

    One tract of National Forest System land (approximately 54.29 acres) would be exchanged for two separate private tracts (approximately 59.84 and 27.52 acres).

  • Boggy Head Rifle Range

    This project is being cancelled. There are major changes with the project's proposed action, a new project will be created further down the road.

  • Central Electric Power Coop - McClellanville 115 Kv Line

    The Forest Service is a cooperating agency to the USDA Rural Utilities Service, which is the lead agency for a proposal to construct a 115 KV powerline to McClellanville, SC.

  • Henry E. Brown Jr. Right-Of-Way

    Henry E Brown Jr. is requesting a 50-powerline right-of-way to install approximately 3,200 linear feet of 1.5-inch copper cable and 0.5-inch fiber optic cable.

  • Home Telephone Company, Inc Reconnect 4

    Home Telephone Company Inc. is proposing to install approximately 16.32 miles of hardened high-speed fiber optic network cable by vibratory plow on the Francis Marion National Forest as part of the USDA Rural Utility Services SC ReConnect 4 fiber opt

  • Sewee Visitors Center Special Use Permit Renewal

    Renewal of expired Special Use Permit for Sewee Visitors Center

  • South Carolina Hwy 17A Rural Safety Improvements

    The project scope will include various engineering solutions such as widening and paving of shoulders, wider and brighter pavement markings, edgeline and centerline rumble stripes, RW clearing to improve roadway clearzone, flattening of roadside slop

Long Cane Ranger District

  • Forks/Martintown/Horn Creek Vegetation Management Project and 216/217 Salvage Herbicide Treatment

    Restore forest health,restoration of native species and improved wildlife habitat conditions

  • Long Cane Recreation Events

    Mountain bike and running events on existing trails and roads.

  • S-52 (Lanham Rd) over Horn Creek Bridge Replacment

    Federal Highways Bridge Replacement S-52 Lanham Road or Horn Creek

  • Saluda County Roads

    The Sumter National Forest is proposing to do maintenance and repair on approximately 6.2 miles of county jurisdiction roads that run through the Forest in Saluda County.

  • Spectrum Southeast LLC Fiber Optic

    Spectrum Southeast, LLC is requesting a Special Use Permit for placement of approximately 42,700 feet of fiber cable fiber optic cable to provide service to rural area in Greenwood, McCormick, Saluda and Abbeville Counties.
