Projects
Project planning follows Forest Service regulations (36 CFR 220), which are based on and are consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) regulations, and USDA regulations. For those not familiar with NEPA or the CEQ regulations, CEQ published a 45-page Citizens Guide that provides information on how citizens can get involved.

Access utilizing NFSR 503A & 503A1
Use and maintenance of existing closed National Forest System Roads 503A and 503A1 by neighboring landowner to access said land. Rights-of-way will be 5,161.86 feet (0.98 mile) in length with a 15-foot width (1.78 acres).

Bois d'Arc Open Areas Restoration Project
Restore open areas on the Bois d'Arc unit of the Caddo National Grassland to better represent historic conditions of native prairies and oak savannas using mechanical, fire and seeding methods.

Brookland Thinning Project
Thinning of over stocked stands in the area of Brookland TX in compartments 88, 124, 125, and 126 for a total of 4,159 acres

Bullet Creek Mulching
The purpose of this project is to reduce fire intensity, mitigate smoke management issues, and to help restore a more fire-adapted ecosystem. Mechanical mulching would reduce the amount of small and mid-sized fuels in the treatment area.

Butch Arthur
Butch Arthur Project would include pine and hardwood thinning, mechanical mulching, and prescribed burning to move stand conditions toward the desired future condition for RCW habitat and reduce the risk of SPB outbreak and wildfire effects.

Caddo Land Exchange
The proposed Caddo Land Exchange is a connected action to the Lake Ralph Hall Regional Water Supply Reservoir Project (Lake Ralph Hall Project), with approximately 351 acres of the Caddo National Grassland being within the defined project boundary.

Proposal to issue new Special Use Permit to Century Link for 16 miles of communications lines which were previously permitted to Sprint.

The forest proposes thinning overstocked stands, prescribed burning, and planting of native species to reduce risk of SPB infestation and improve wildlife habitat for RCW.

Salvage of trees in administrative sites, in recreation areas, along roads, trails, and boundary lines.

Houston County Electric Cooperative Permit Proposals
Houston County Electric Coop has proposed moving 3 existing power lines to new routes that would decrease their overall environmental impact, decrease safety hazards associated with fire, and allow better management of these lines.

Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative Special Use Permit Amendment
This project is to add additional powerline to provide electrical service to a private property that is landlocked by National forest System land.

Midsouth 101 Special Use Permit Renewal
Proposal to combine and re-issue three Special Use Permits for approximately 25.75 miles of already existing powerlines to Mid-South Synergy. The lines provide service to multiple private land inholdings in several compartments and two counties.

Montgomery County Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project
The National Forests and Grasslands propose to alter existing stand structures within the project area, to move the stands towards the desired conditions for RCW habitat and reduce Forest susceptibility to SPB.

To remove 730 linear feet (0.05 acre) of road backslope to widen the existing road to a uniform width of 20 feet.

The proposed project area is within the Moore Plantation Wildlife Management Area (WMA). It consists of Sabine National Forest Administrative Compartments 127, 132, and 135, which consist of approximately 3,479 acres.

Install a 0.77 acre (1,715 ft. x 20 ft.) powerline corridor across the eastern portion of Unit 71 on the LBJ National Grassland. Powerline will be overhead construction.

Raven Forest Unit Expansion
Raven Forest Unit proposed development of up to 16 wells and 2 pads. The project takes place in compartments 29, 30, 31 and 33 of the Sam Houston National Forest.

Sabine Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project
The purpose of the project is to provide improved safety areas around critical infrastructure and to allow point source protection of that infrastructure in the event of a wildfire.

The Sabine River Authority (SRA) has submitted a Marina and Resort Special Use Permit application for the purpose of developing two recreation sites on US Forest Service property in Sabine and Shelby County.

The Sabine River Authority as part of their obligations under their recently re-issued Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license, is proposing to implement a plan involving improvements to 4 recreation areas on the Sabine NF.

Designating a 18,527 ft by 10 ft utility corridor. A 12-inch diameter natural gas pipeline wwould be installed by boring under an existing smaller diameter pipeline.
