Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness
Pursuant to 36 CFR Section 261.50(a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited in the Wilderness Area described in this order within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests until rescinded.
Self Issued Mandatory Registration
Party leads and/or individuals when entering the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Area are required to fill out a self-issued mandatory registration card. The person's City, County and State or residence is required information. The person’s name is optional information. (Title 36 CFR 261.57 (a).
Pursuant to 36 CFR, Section 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
- Any Federal, State, local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
Location description – This restriction includes all National Forest lands within the boundaries of the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Area located on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests. Reference the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot Forest map for actual Anaconda-Pintler Boundary locations.

Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness
Pursuant to 36 CFR Section 261.50(a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited in the .Area described in this order within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests until further notice.
Group Size
Group size within the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness is limited to a maximum number of 12 people and 12 head of pack and riding stock. (Title 36 CFR 261.58 (f)).
Pursuant to 36 CFR, Section 261.SO(c), the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
- Any Federal, State, local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
Location description – This restriction includes all National Forest lands within the boundaries of the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Area on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests.

Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness
Pursuant to 36 CFR Section 261.50(a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited in the .Area described in this order within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests until further notice.
Camping With Stock
It is prohibited to camp with pack and riding stock within¼ mile of the following lakes: (Title 36 CFR 261.58 (s) and Title 36 CFR 261.57 (b).
- Sawed Cabin Lake
- Oreamnos Lake
- Ripple Lake
Travel With Stock
Possessing or using a saddle, pack or draft animal on the Hope Lake Trail #424. (Title 36 CFR 261.55 (c). (Reason: Trail unsafe for stock and no appropriate area to contain stock in the vicinity of the lake.)

- Buck Lake
- Unnamed Lake below Queener Mtn.
- Lost Lakes
- Sawed Cabin Lake
- Upper Carpp Lake
- Bear Lake
- Emerald Lake
- Lower Phyllis Lake
- Continental Lake
- Sauer Lake
- Park Lakes
- Unnamed Lake west of Warren Lake

Special Restriction Order

Deerlodge National Forest - Philipsburg Ranger District
Anaconda Pintler Wilderness
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 and 261.55©, the following is prohibited on the Deerlodge National Forest lands within the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness, Region 1, unless authorized by a permit from the Forest Supervisor or District Ranger. This restriction is in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, Part 261, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations. This order becomes effective and will remain in effect yearly until rescinded or revoked.
Special Restriction
That portion of the Pintler Wilderness Area located on the Deerlodge National Forest will be closed to all stock use from April 1 to July 1 yearly to prevent resource trail damage.
Anaconda Pintler Wilderness Area (Deerlodge National Forest)
Beginning at Storm Lake Pass on Trail No. 41 in the NW ¼, NW ¼, Section 31, T4N, R13W; thence southwesterly along the Continental Divide for approximately 19 miles to West Pintler Peak in the SE ¼, NW ¼, Section 7, T2N, R15W; thence westerly along the Bitterroot Divide for approximately 7 miles to the NW ¼, NE ¼, Section 32, T3N, R16W; thence northeasterly along the boundary of the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness area for approximately 27 miles to the SE 1/4 , NE ¼ Section 13, T4N, R14W; thence southerly along the boundary of the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness area for approximately 3 miles to the point of origin.
Exempted from Special Restrictions
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act 36 CFR 261. 50 (e)(1).
- Any Federal, state or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty (36 CFR 261.50€(4)).
Violation of these regulations or the conditions of any permit issued thereunder is punishable by a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) or six (6) months imprisonment, or both (16 USC 551).
