Copper Creek Road Improvements to Begin April 9

Release Date: April 2, 2026

(Lincoln, MT, April 2, 2026) – The Helena–Lewis and Clark National Forest will begin road improvement work on Copper Creek Road, located on the Lincoln Ranger District approximately 7 miles west of Lincoln, on April 9. Construction is expected to continue through June 5, 2026, with timelines subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Copper Creek Road is paved for the first 2.6 miles before transitioning to an aggregate surface. The paved section has reached the end of its service life. This project will grind the existing asphalt and blend it with the underlying base to form a new sub‑base. A new aggregate surface will then be added.

In addition, crews will improve an additional two miles of existing aggregate road by blading, watering, rolling, and applying a dust‑abatement additive. A small amount of new asphalt surfacing will also be placed on both sides of the Landers Fork Creek bridge to reduce sediment delivery.

The road will remain open while work is being done; however, travelers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during road‑grinding activities. Culvert installation, scheduled for April 30 through May 4, 2026, may result in delays of up to two hours.

The Helena–Lewis and Clark National Forest appreciates the public’s patience as these important improvements are completed to enhance safety, reduce sedimentation, and extend the life of this route.
