Winter Sports

There's nothing like a fresh dump of snow to get people outside and into the woods in the winter. So, grab those skis/snowshoes, or haul that snowmobile and enjoy the endless snow.

Skiing/Snowboarding

There are two ski areas located on the Lolo National Forest that are under special use permits administered by the Forest Service. Montana Snowbowl near Missoula is administered by the Lolo National Forest and Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area near Superior that is administered by the Idaho Panhandle National Forest.

Snowmobiling

There are several opportunities for snowmobiling on the Lolo National Forest.  To learn more about where you can ride please visit Maps & Guides.

For information on Lolo Pass and the Idaho side of US Highway 12, please check out the Nez Perce-Clearwater Snowmobile Page.

XC Skiing/Snowshoeing

Traveling through the snow on skis or snowshoes is a unique way to view winter wildlife and the forest in its winter coat.
