Hanna Nature Trailhead

Hanna Nature trail is approximately 1 mile loop that begins and ends at Hanna campground. It winds through the pines and takes you to a scenic view point above the campground.

General Information

Available year round ... with limited services in the shoulder seasons. 

There are no fees associated with trailheads. 

Dogs in developed recreation sites, such as campgrounds, picnic sites, and day-use areas, must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times. Furthermore, dogs are not allowed on any swim beaches on the Forest.  For the safety and comfort of fellow recreationalists, the Forest encourages guests to avoid leaving pets unattended at campsites and/or in parked vehicles.

Directions

To access Hanna Nature Trailhead from Lead, South Dakota, travel south on US Highway 85 for approximately eight miles to just past the intersection of Cheyenne Crossing and US Highway 14A. Turn left (south) onto FSR 196 and travel for about two miles to the campground / trailhead entrance.

Toilet facilities are available in nearby Hanna Campground and can be used by hikers. However, hikers may experience limited services from approximately October 1 through May 15 (shoulder season).

Potable water is available at this site.

Please be advised that water is not available from approximately October 1 through May 15 (shoulder season).  Depending on weather conditions, water availability may change in the spring and fall seasons, due to cold temperatures and the potential for freezing waterlines.
