Volunteers
Volunteering with the Forest Service was formalized in 1972 when the Volunteers in the National Forests Act was passed. This law allows the Forest Service to accept help from volunteers, whether they’re individuals or groups. Volunteers often include retirees, professionals, international visitors, college students, teens, and even kids.
Many organizations also partner with the Forest Service, such as youth groups, civic and environmental organizations, schools, fraternities and sororities, special interest clubs, large companies, and small businesses.
The Forest Service volunteer program offers experiences you’ll never forget. Projects can include things like maintaining trails or helping with wildlife research. To find out what opportunities are available, contact your local Forest Service office.
