Water Activities

Looking to spend a hot summer day floating along the serene waters of a mountain lake or seeking a bit of adrenaline on a swift river rapid? Whether you prefer a leisurely float or an exciting adventure, the GMUG National Forests offers over 300 lakes and 3,600 miles of streams for you to discover.

Boating - Motorized

Many of our larger lakes and reservoirs on the GMUG National Forest allow motorized boats, however the horsepower allowed varies. Please check with the Colorado Boatable Waterways Directory for specific information.  Any boat with a motor or sail operated on public waters must be registered with Colorado State Parks.

Boating - Non-Motorized

Floating or paddling through the forests is the perfect way to view wildlife and take in the beauty of riparian vegetation. During spring flows, kayaking and canoeing opportunities are the best in many of our waterways. The Upper Taylor River also provides rafting opportunities throughout the summer and fall.
