Badger Flats Occupancy and Use – Camping Near Roads

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), the following act is prohibited on all National Forest System (NFS) lands within the Badger Flats Management Area described further below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order has Exhibit A (the “Restricted Area”).

The Restricted Area is in the South Park Ranger District of the Pike National Forest in Park County, Colorado. The boundaries for the Badger Flats Management Area are the following: The western most boundary is the Pike National Forest boundary north and west of Wilkerson Pass. The northern boundary follows watershed boundaries east to the Lost Creek Wilderness boundary. The eastern boundary continues by following the Lost Creek Wilderness boundary southeast to the South Platte River, then following the river to NFSR 112, then along NFSR 112 to County Road 77, then along County Road 77 to the intersection of U.S. Highway 24. The southern boundary is Park County Road 90 from U.S. Highway 24 near Lake George and runs northwest along Park County Road 90 to intersection of U.S. Highway 24 near Wilkerson Pass. The purpose of this Order is to protect natural resources and public health and safety. 

PROHIBITIONS: 

  1. Camping within the Restricted Area, unless in a Forest Service developed campground or in a designated dispersed campsite provided by the Forest Service and marked by a campsite marker within a designated dispersed camping area (shown on Exhibit A) or more than ¼ mile from a NFS road. 36C.F.R. § 261.58(e)

EXEMPTIONS:

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Any federal, state or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force, in the performance of an official duty; and
  2. Persons with a special use authorization or other Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.

This Order becomes effective at 12:01 am on the date signed and remains in effect for 5 years, or until rescinded, whichever event occurs first.
