    Location: Leadville Ranger District within the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, 4 miles west of Twin Lakes in Chaffee and Lake Counties

    Start Date: Aug. 17, 2025, at 5:46 p.m.  

    Size: 133 acres 

    Containment: 66% 

    Cause: Human-caused, abandoned campfire.

    Vegetation: Oak brush, ponderosa pine and Douglas fir.

    Resources: 11 personnel, including one Type 3 helicopter.

    Closure: A closure order is still in effect around the La Plata Wildfire to protect public health and safety. Visit the alert webpage to view the order and map.

    Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the highest priority. Drones and firefighting aircraft are a dangerous mix and could lead to accidents or slow down wildfire operations. If you fly, we can’t.
