Bear Creek Wildfire Update | Monday, April 6, 2026

Location: South Platte Ranger District about 2 miles northwest of the Indian Creek campground in Douglas County. 

Start Date: April 4, 2026, at 10:30 p.m.  

Size: 11 acres 

Containment: Currently at 75% with expected 100% containment by 5:00 p.m. on April 6. 

Cause: Still under investigation.

Vegetation: The fire is currently burning in timber understory and litter with a small component of oak brush. 

Resources: Currently 30 personnel assigned including one hand crew, two engines and one smokejumper module. Yesterday, additional resources including one Type 1 helicopter and two Type 2 helicopters assisted operations. 

Highlights: Response for this fire was an interagency effort from both state and federal cooperators. Areas of the fire are still smoldering and smoke will be visible.  All lines held overnight and mop up is going very well. 

Weather: The forecast for the upcoming days includes above-average temperatures and dry conditions. 

Closure: There are currently no closures or evacuations in place. 

Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the highest priority. Drones and firefighting aircraft are a dangerous mix and could lead to accidents or slow down wildfire operations. If you fly, we can’t.
