Grasslands plan revision overview

The Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands are currently revising their land management plan. Land management plans guide how our national forests and grasslands are managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The grasslands are currently managed under the 1984 Land and Resource Management Plan. A lot has changed over the past 41 years, and it is time to work together to update the plan for the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands. We are revising our plan to respond to social and environmental changes, use the best available science to make decisions and stay current with laws, regulations and policies.

The revision process includes three main steps, all of which include opportunities for involvement: assessment, draft and final plan development and objections process and final decision. We are currently in the assessment step. You can learn more about the plan revision process timeline and what each step involves here.

Public input provides us with valuable information on the current conditions, desired uses and cultural, social, spiritual and economic values provided by the grasslands to the communities and Tribes in the plan area.
