Chris Park Group Campground

The Chris Park Group Campground, one mile south of Haviland Lake on Forest Rd. 166, has 3 group campsites. Two group sites accommodate 75 campers each. A third group site accommodates up to 150 people, has a pavilion, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, electricity and RV access. The park is mostly flat and open, partly shaded by a few large ponderosa pines.

General Information

May through September. For specific open / closure dates, visit recreation.gov.

Check-in time: 2:00 pm

Check-out time: 12:00 pm

If the site is empty, campers may come in anytime.

Quiet time is typically between 10pm - 6am. Please be a good neighbor and limit use of generators to no more than one hour at a time.

Overnight Use:
Group Sites 1 and 2: $140 per night
Group Site 3: $280 per night

Dogs must be leashed or otherwise physically retrained. Do not leave pets unattended.

Directions

From Durango, CO: Travel 19 miles north on Highway 550. Turn right on Haviland Lake Road. After about 0.3 miles, turn right on Chirs Park Road and follow for approximately 1 mile.

Parking

Equipment with wheels (RVs, campers, cars) must fit in the parking spur.  There is not any overflow parking available.

Standard single site occupancy is 8, but a single family with > 8 members is acceptable.

Recreation Opportunities

Boating - Non-Motorized Info

Haviland Lake, a short drive from the campground, offers excellent fishing and non-motorized boating opportunities. The lake is managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

General Hiking Info

Chris Park / Havialnd Lake Trail System includes a series of interconnected trails that meander through the Haviland and Chris Park area. The trails are good for hiking and horseback riding in the summer and XC skiing and snowshoeing in the winters.

Biking - Road Cycling Info

Highway 550 has wide shoulders, scenic views, and some challenging climbs.

Horseback Riding Info

A commercial stable next to the entrance road offers horseback rides.
