Evacuations: NO Evacuations are currently in effect 

Values at risk: Paxton Springs Subdivision, La Jara Subdivision and Quartz Hill Trailhead 

Containment: 100% Fuels: Heavy Timber, Grass and Brush 

Current Fire behavior: Smoldering 

Situation: Grants, New Mexico, 5/12/2025: Fire crews from several agencies responded to the Cinder Cone Fire on the Mt. Taylor Ranger District yesterday. Today firefighters continued to secure the perimeter as well as mop-up interior hotspots. This 7.2 acre fire is now 100% contained. Firefighters will continue mop-up and monitoring the area as necessary in preparation for the upcoming predicted wind event.

Weather: This Afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. West wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 65. Windy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon.
