FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Oct. 8, 2025—Firefighters are responding to the 4-acre Ritter Fire located 11 miles northeast of Sedona on the rim of Oak Creek Canyon.

Resources assigned to the fire include a hand crew and two engines.

Smoke is visible from Interstate 17 and state Route 89 and will remain noticeable over the coming days.

The Ritter Fire is being managed with a full suppression strategy. Steep cliffs and hazardous terrain present challenges to firefighters working on the Ritter Fire.

Forecasted precipitation in the area is expected to arrive in the coming days and aid in firefighter suppression activities.

The Ritter Fire was first reported Oct. 7 and its cause is under investigation.

A closure order has not been issued but members of the public are asked to avoid the fire area and remain cognizant of working firefighters and increased traffic in the area.
