CLINTS WELL, Ariz., June 12, 2025 — Fire Managers made the decision early this morning to immediately suppress and contain the Horse Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located 11 miles east of Clints Well on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District.

Although the initial decision was to manage the fire to reduce forest fuels and allow it to fulfill its natural role on the landscape, the decision was made to change management tactics after a thorough assessment of updated weather forecasts and potentially increased risk to nearby homes.

The fire, which started June 9, is now fully contained at a quarter of an acre, and crews are actively patrolling the perimeter.

“We are always looking for opportunities to safely manage wildfire to protect communities and improve forest health,” said Mogollon Rim District Ranger Brandon McKenney. “However, based on the changing conditions, we made the decision to adjust our strategy, prioritizing the safety of our firefighters and communities.”
