Arizona Scenic Trail - Passage 05: Santa Rita Mountains

The first 13 passages of the Arizona National Scenic Trail pass through the Coronado National Forest.

  • Apache Springs Trailhead to Oak Tree Canyon – 13.8 miles

Hikers are in for a treat as this section hits Kentucky Camp and the Santa Rita Water and Mining Company Interpretive Site after 3.7 miles. Here, potable water and vault toilets add a luxury on the trail not seen until now. A wrap-around porch with rocking chairs makes for a great respite for any weary traveler.

After departing from Kentucky Camp, the trail will wind through grassy hills spotted with oak, junipers, and agave. There is no reliable water on this section of the trail, so hikers are encouraged to fill up at Kentucky Camp.

Approaching the newly developed Oak Tree Canyon Trailhead is a treat as it features ample parking with a stock pond nearby. The stock pond water should be purified before use.
