Blowout Campground
BlBlowout Campground is nestled near the shores of Palisades Reservoir, about 58 miles southeast of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Situated within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in the Palisades Ranger District, this campground rests at an elevation of 5,600 feet, accessible via U.S. Highway 26.
Natural Features: Aspens and tall lodgepole pines tower over the campground, casting partial shade across its gentle slopes. Just down the hill, the shimmering Palisades Reservoir stretches out, its waters reflecting the surrounding peaks and inviting visitors to its shores.
The Blowout Boat Ramp, a short stroll away, opens up a world of recreation on the reservoir—boating, water skiing, and fishing for Yellowstone cutthroat trout, brown trout, lake trout, and kokanee salmon. Nearby, the South Fork of the Snake River tempts anglers with its own bounty of cutthroat, rainbow trout, and whitefish.
Facilities: The campground offers 11 single-family sites and four double-family sites, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Vault toilets are provided, but there’s no drinking water or on-site host, so campers should come prepared with their own water and supplies. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, welcoming visitors to this rustic retreat.
Season: Late May-Early September Fee: $17 for a single site, $34 for a double site
After Season: Open, first-come/first-served; no fee, no toilets, no water.
