PALOMAR MOUNTAIN, Calif., – The newly reconstructed Crestline Group Campground on the Palomar Ranger District of the Cleveland National Forest is open for reservations starting May 15.
Nestled on Palomar Mountain at 5,390 feet near the intersection of County Roads S6 and S7, the Crestline Group Campground was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s-1940s. Today, it offers an ideal setting for large gatherings of up to 50 people within a popular recreation area renowned for its excellent stargazing, scenic picnic spots, and convenient access to nearby hiking trails.
The reconstruction of Crestline’s camping features aims to significantly enhance visitor experiences and promote sustainable recreation. Along with upgrading the campground’s infrastructure, this transformation improved the accessibility of the trails, camp pads and group kitchen, providing greater access for all members of the public. As the sole group campground within the Palomar Ranger District, Crestline will provide a unique and frequently requested recreational opportunity in the area.
“We are excited to see families, scout troops, veterans’ groups and others making new memories continuing the legacy of recreation in this beautiful campground,” said District Ranger Amy Reid.
The Crestline Group Campground opens on May 15, 2025, and reservations are required. Reservations and additional information are available online at www.recreation.gov or by phone at 877-444-6777. Please contact the Palomar Ranger District for current information 760-788-0250, SM.FS.PalomarRD@usda.gov.
