ESCCRP SHADY REST FOREST HEALTH PROJECT AREA CLOSURE
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety
while contractors perform forest health work for the Shady Rest Forest Health Project, the
following acts are prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from July
15, 2026, through September 15, 2026.
1. Entering or being in the Shady Rest Forest Health Project Area Closure: The boundary of the
Shady Rest Forest Health Project Area Closure begins at the intersection of Forest System Roads
03S35 and 03S08S (37.657297N 118.956123W). The closure follows Forest System Road 03S35 southwest until it intersects Forest System Road 03S35E (37.654248N118.958441W). The closure then follows Forest System Road 03S35E west for 0.04 miles (37.654072N 118.959207W) where it turns north. The closure then heads north for 0.9 miles until it intersects Forest System Road 03S121A
(37.665312N118.955259W). The closure then follows Forest System Road 03S121A for
0.1 mile where it turns east at point 37.666904N 118.955253W for 0.03 mile where it intersects
Forest System Road 03S08J (37.666731N 118.954787W). The closure follows Forest System Road 03S08J east until it intersects Forest System 03S36, then follows Forest System Road 03S36 until it
intersects Forest System Road 03S08. The closure heads west along Forest System Road where it
intersects Forest System Road 03S35 (37.659464N 118.950201W), it then follows Forest System Road
03S35 for 0.45 miles to the original location, as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with an approved Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails,
or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in
the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261,
Subpart A. A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an
individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
