PACK FIRE AREA CLOSURE
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety, the following act is prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from December 20, 2025, through February 28, 2026.
1. Entering or being on National Forest System lands within the Pack Fire Closure Area, which is the area within the boundary described below and shown on the attached map, inclusive of the roads and trails described:
a) The boundary of the Peak Fire Closure Area begins at northwest corner of Section 20, T4S, R29E; then continues south to the southwest corner of Section 32, T4S, R29E.
b) The Closure boundary continues east to the junction of the John Muir Wilderness boundary and Section 32, T4S, R29E; then follows the wilderness boundary east to the junction of Section 33, T4S, R29E; then continues east to the junction of Section 33 and Forest Road/footrail 4S137.
c) The Closure boundary continues north along Forest Road 4S137 to the trail between 4S137 and Forest Road 4S06, west along this trail, then northeast along the spur trail back to Forest Road 4S137.
d) The Closure boundary continues northerly along Forest Road 4S137 to the Forest boundary between Sections 27 and 28, T4S, R29E.
e) The Closure boundary continues north along the Forest boundary to the junction of the powerline easement road just southwest of the northeast corner of section 28, T4S, R29E; then follows the powerline road northwest to the junction of Sections of 21 and 28, T4S, R29E.
f) The Closure boundary continues west along the Forest boundary to the northwest corner of Section 28, T4S, R29E.
g) The Closure boundary continues north along the Forest boundary to powerline road junction (Forest Road 4S106) and Section 20; then northwest to the junction with Sections 17 and 20, T4S, R29E.
h) The Closure boundary continues west to the starting point at the northwest corner of Section 20, T4S, R29E.
36 C.F.R. § 262.52(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
This Order supersedes Order 05-04-53-25-36.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or
$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
