Cottonwood Lakes Walk in Campground
Located in the Horseshoe Meadow Recreation Area, the Cottonwood Lakes Walk in campground has 13 walk-in sites suitable for backpackers and hikers to use the night before they are going to hike to Cottonwood Lakes. Sites include food storage boxes, tent pads, tables, fire grates, and toilet facilities.
The backpackers walk in campsites share parking with the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead. Plan ahead, there's no cell service at this campground .

General Information
Historically, there has been a high level of bear activity in the Horseshoe Meadow area. A bear-proof locker is located at each site at Cottonwood Lakes Walk in Campground. All food and scented items must be stored in the lockers. All trash must be disposed of in the bear proof trash receptacles. Do not store food, trash or scented items in your vehicle.
Late May through Mid October. Scheduled to close for the 2025 season on October 26, weather dependent.
Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
- One night stay limit at campgrounds.
- Campfires only in metal fire rings provided
- Wood gathering is prohibited
- Active bear area, bear boxes are provided and must be used (typical bear box size 48" x 30" x 36")

Single Site: $11 per night
Dogs must be leashed in all developed recreation areas.

Directions
From Highway 395, turn west at the stoplight at the center of Lone Pine, and follow Whitney Portal Road for 3 miles. Then turn south onto Horseshoe Meadow Road. The campground is 24 miles from the town of Lone Pine, California.
