Golden Trout Campground Closing for Season August 2, 2026 at 2 p.m.
Golden Trout Campground will be closing for the 2026 season starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 2. This is due to a bridge replacement project on the road used to access the campground. Campers this weekend should be prepared to check out by 2 p.m. Sunday.
Golden Trout Campground and Forest Road 22N24 between Forest Roads 21N18Y and 20N09 on the Plumas National Forest Feather River Ranger District will be closed starting at 2 p.m. this Sunday, August 2.
The Campground and road closure is going into effect as contractors plan to start work on Monday on the Golden Trout Bridge Replacement Project.
During this project, the road will be blocked and the campground will be inaccessible.
The closure is to allow for public, contractor and employee safety as the old bridge is removed, structures are replaced and the new bridge is installed.
The project was expected to start in late spring and to go through summer, but was delayed, allowing the campground to be open for most of the season. With work starting this week, the campground will be closed the remainder of the summer recreation season. Reopening the campground in 2027 will be dependent on the project being completed.
There will be public notification when the project is completed and Golden Trout Campground and Forest Road 22N24 are open to the public.

Golden Trout Bridge Replacement Road and Campground Area Closure Order
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Feather River Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest. This Order is effective from 2 p.m. on August 2, 2026, through November 30, 2027.
- Being on Forest Road No. 22N24, from the intersection with Forest Road No. 21N18Y south to the intersection with Forest Road No. 20N09, as shown on Exhibit A (map). 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e).
- Going onto or being within Golden Trout Campground, an area closed for public health and safety, as shown on Exhibit A (map). 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or
$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
