  • Little Grass Valley Reservoir Recreation Area - Wyandotte Campground Bald Eagle Closure

    A Forest Closure Order has been issued for part of Wyandotte Campground at Little Grass Valley Reservoir Recreation Area for the protection of a pair of nesting bald eagles and their eaglets.  

    The loop including campsites 1 through 17 and the surrounding area is closed to the public until July 15 when the eaglets are expected to fledge.

Little Grass Valley Reservoir/Wyandotte Campground Nesting Bald Eagle Closure

 

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Feather River Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest. This Order is effective from June 6, 2025, through July 15, 2025.

  1. Being on the National Forest System roads listed below and shown on Exhibit A (map).

    1. Forest Road No. 22N57YA, from its intersection with Forest Road No. 22N57Y just north of the Peninsula Tent Campground, then north to its terminus.
    2. Forest Road No. 22N57YB, from its intersection with Forest Road No. 22N57Y just north of the Peninsula Tent Campground, then north to its terminus.

  2. Going into or being in the Bald Eagle Closure Area. The Bald Eagle Closure Area is located in Section 33, T22N, R9E, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian. The Closure Area boundary begins at the intersection of Forest Road No. 22N57YA and Forest Road No. 22N57Y, then continues due west to its intersection with the shoreline of Little Grass Valley Reservoir, then continues north along the shoreline for 0.93 mile, then continues due west back to the starting point as shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(a).
     
  3. Entering or using the Wyandotte Campground, shown on Exhibit A.  36 C.F.R. § 261.58(b).

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
