KERN FLOODPLAIN SITE AREA CLOSURE
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. This Order is effective from May 26, 2022, through May 25, 2025.
Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the Kern Floodplain Site Closure Area. The Kern Floodplain Site Closure Area boundary begins at a point approximately 1,029 feet from the southwest corner of the airport campground parking area at a bearing of 247 degrees southwest, then continues south approximately 754 feet along the east bank of the Kern River overflow channel, then continues east at a bearing of 122 degrees approximately 300 feet, then continues north at a bearing of 39 degrees approximately 856 feet parallel to the east bank of the Kern River, then continues west at a bearing of 286 degrees approximately 350 feet back to the starting point, as shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with a Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
This prohibition is in addition to the prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or
$10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C.
§ 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
