05-15-51-25-01-SNF Nelder Grove Historic Area Closure
In 2016, the Sierra Nevada Range endured an overwhelming amount of tree die-off as a result of drought conditions and bark beetle infestation. Designated recreational sites, roads, and trails within the Grove suffered significant damage. Forest personnel have continued with projects to repair and treat the damage to provide a safe environment for the visiting public. Several efforts have commenced to save the remaining Giant Sequoia trees damaged by the Railroad Fire and recent drought. Immediate action was called upon by Forest Service leadership to enact an emergency response.
