Pine Mountain & FSR 2017 Closure
Forest Service Road (FSR) 2017 providing access to Pine Mountain received significant damage during a rain event in May 2026. Buried powerlines were damaged and displaced. FSR 2017 and the Pine Mountain Campground are temporarily closed while work is underway to repair powerline infrastructure.

Forest Order
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. 551, 36 C.F.R. § 261.S0(b), the following acts are prohibited on National Forest
System lands, roads and trails within the following described area on the Deschutes National Forest,
Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District, as described in the attached Exhibit A. This Order is effective July 14,
2026, through October 30, 2026, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS:
- Being upon a closed road. 36 CFR § 261.54 (e).
- Going into or being within the Pine Mountain Campground. 36 CFR § 261.53(e).
The area described below will be closed to public access/entry due to hazards and hazardous conditions
during construction activities to construct aquatic organism passage culvert.
AFFECTED AREA/CLOSURE AREA:
National Forest System Road 2017:
National Forest System Road (NFSR) 2017 closed at the forest boundary within Township 20 South, Range
15 East, Section 15. Closure follows NFSR 2017 right-of-way to junction of NFSR 23 within Township 21
South, Range 15 East, Section 16. See map attached as Exhibit A.
Developed Recreation Site:
Pine Mountain Campground is a primitive campground within Township 20 South, Range 15 East, Section
33 that begins at the intersection of NFSR 2017 and NFSR 2017-500 and runs along NFSR2017-500 road.

EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50je), the following are exempt from this Order:
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas
Restricted by Regulation or Order) specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or
omission. - Any Federal, State or Local Officer or member of an organized firefighting force in the
performance of an official duty. - Owners or lessees of land in the affected area.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or
$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 USC§ 551; 18
USC§§ 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581).
