The Race to Save the Whitebark Pine
After two years dedicated to research and restoration, American Forests and U.S. Forest Service teams bring new life to the whitebark pine forests in the Deschutes National Forest. Whitebark pines are hardy trees surviving a harsh high desert environment in Central Oregon, but they do face an unforgiving foe: white pine blister rust, a fungus impacting whitebark pine across seven U.S. states and western Canada.
