Grasshopper Fire Evening Update

Fire Summary:
Grasshopper Fire was reported at 7:41pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The fire is located on the east side of the Mt. Hood National Forest, about 3.5 miles west of Rock Creek Reservoir. Firefighters responded that evening and engaged in suppression action.
On Friday, additional firefighters and significant aviation resources worked to suppress the fire. Air resources included 4 scooper planes and a type 1 helicopter who both dipped water from Timothy Lake. Air tankers (both LATs and VLATs), delivered and dropped retardant loads on the fire. Firefighters engaged on the ground included 2 hotshot crews, 2 engines, a type 2 Mt. Hood fire hand crew and the Jacob’s Creek fire module from the Columbia River Gorge. The fire also utilized a water tender and dozer.
At the end of the day shift on Friday, the fire was estimated to be 100 acres. Additional resources had been ordered throughout the day.
Today firefighters continued to build line along the flanks of the fire. Scoopers and type 1 helicopter supported firefighters till winds shut down all aviation resources on the fire. Air tankers had been ordered.
In the afternoon, winds gusted 25-30 MPH. When combined with dry fuel conditions extreme fire behavior developed including spotting and crowning. This afternoon the fire made a run and reached Badger Creek. As of 5:30 PM the fire is only on the Mt. Hood National Forest.
