Clackamas River Ranger District
The Clackamas River Ranger District, located east of Estacada, covers over 400,000 acres on the western side of Mt. Hood National Forest. The District includes numerous Wilderness areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, popular lakes, and many campgrounds and trails. It provides drinking water for over 300,000 people, produces hydropower for local homes, and provides our communities with wood products such as plywood, dimensional lumber, and firewood. It’s also a popular area for fishing, hunting, mushroom collecting, and finding a Christmas tree.
In 2020, the District was heavily impacted by the 140,000-acre Riverside Fire that was propelled by the historic Labor Day windstorm. The burn scar is evident along Highway 224 and upper Clackamas River today.
