Clear Lake Recreation Area Closure on the Naches Ranger District
An area closure of Forest Service roads and developed campgrounds within the Clear Lake Recreation Area and vicinity on the Naches Ranger District will occur starting April 25 and extending through April 2027.
The closure is needed for public safety during the Bureau of Reclamation’s Clear Creek Dam Fish Passage Project. During this project, heavy equipment will be operating on Forest Service roads and contractors will be using campgrounds and Sno-Park sites for equipment storage and worker field camps.

Forest Order
Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50 (a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited to provide for public safety on National Forest System (NFS) lands, roads, developed recreation sites and trails within the Clear Lake Recreation Area (CLRA) and adjacent lands on the Naches Ranger District administered by the Okanogan- Wenatchee National Forest as described below and shown in Exhibit A. This Order is effective from April 25, 2025 through April 14, 2027, unless rescinded sooner.
The CLRA is comprised of developed recreation sites that include multiple campgrounds, a boat launch, and day use area; although the boat launch and day use area remain open and are exempt from the closure.
PROHIBITIONS:
- Entering or using a recreation site or portion thereof, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A. [36 CFR § 261.58 (b)].
- Being on a National Forest System Road as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A. [36 CFR § 261.54 (e)].
CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION:
The CLRA is located on National Forest System (NFS) lands within the Naches Ranger District administered by the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
The following roads and developed recreation sites, including but not limited to campgrounds, in and surrounding the CLRA, are closed:
Roads Closed:
- FSR 1200-740 (excluding the southern ½ mile from FSR 1200 to the Clear Lake Boat Launch)
- FSR 1200-746
- FSR 1200-751
- FSR 1200-749
- FSR 1200-750
- FSR 1200-744
- FSR 1200-737
Developed Recreation Sites Closed:
Clear Lake North Campgrounds:
- Three Day Campground
- Spring Campground
- Clear Lake Group Campground
Clear Lake South Campgrounds:
- Fishhawk Campground
- Spillway Campground
- Cold Creek Campground
Indian Creek Dispersed Campground
Sno-Parks Closed: Cold Creek Sno-Park
All of the above-listed roads and sites are shown on the attached map, Exhibit A.
EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- The Clear Lake Day Use Area and Clear Lake Boat Launch, which are both shown on the attached map, Exhibit A, remain open and are exempt from this closure order.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or
$10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. (16 USC § 551 and 18 USC
§§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.)
