Winter Sports

There's nothing like a fresh snowfall to get people into the mountains. Enjoy the excitement of downhill skiing or the quiet solitude of snowshoeing on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Before you go, check current weather and avalanche risk to make sure you are prepared for the conditions. If you are backcountry skiing or hiking be aware of tree well and deep snow safety.

Skiing/Snowboarding

The Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest hosts the land for Mission Ridge Ski area, as well as territory for side and backcountry options.

Snowmobiling

More than 168 miles of snowmobile trails can take you throughout the forest. Most trails are not maintained, and parking is limited outside of Sno-Park lots.

Attention Snowmobiles:

  • Snowmobiles are not allowed on forest roads when the roads are passable by highway vehicles.
  • Snowmobiles must have a 24-inch base of snow before riding off-road within the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area to avoid resource damage.

XC Skiing/Snowshoeing

Cross-country skiers can swoosh over hundreds of miles of forest trails. Echo Ridge in Chelan, Lake Wenatchee, Plain Community Trails all provide commercial and groomed cross-country ski trails.
