Staff from the Forest Service's Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest have been working hard to repair and maintain the recreation sites and resources we enjoy and depend upon along the Wild and Scenic Lower Rogue River.

Rebuilding and restoring recreational areas that have been impacted by fire requires time, funding, and skilled trail crews. To ensure proper repair work is done safely, portions of the Rogue River National Recreation Trail will remain closed indefinitely to the public until enough resources and staff are available to fully repair them and provide a safe place for people to visit.

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest has updated the closure order, and posted the order and a map on the forest's website.

Closure Information and Map

Important information for visitors:

  • The trail from Jackson Creek to Clay Hill Creek will be opened by May 1, 2026.
  • We will be assessing the segment from Clay Hill Creek to Foster Bar in the spring of 2026.

Please respect the remaining trail closure and avoid hiking in prohibited areas.

The trail is currently closed because it remains unsafe to the public to use.

  • Six trail bridges were burned and/or damaged by the fire that crossed steep and rugged creeks.
  • Several retaining walls along the trail were also damaged.
  • The ground is unstable and loose boulders and trees can fall at any moment if they are disturbed.
  • Portions of the trail have been severely impacted by mudslides and fallen trees, making them impassable and incredibly unsafe for anyone to hike.

We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to make this trail safe for visitors, and encourage you to share this information with people!
