Oregon Dunes Middle Riding Area Closures
Visitors are prohibited from using any type of motorized vehicle on roads and sand routes within the closure area. The closure areas include Banshee Hill, which is located northeast of the Umpqua #2 staging area, and the southwestern edge of the Umpqua Dunes south of the Umpqua #3 staging area. FOREST ORDER No. 06-12-04-26-10
Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a), the following act is prohibited in the areas described by this order within the administrative boundaries of the Siuslaw National Forest. This order is effective beginning 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2026, through 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
PROHIBITION:
- Possessing or using a vehicle off National Forest System roads and trails within the closure area. 36 CFR § 261.56
CLOSURE AREA:
Portions of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area as depicted in the attached map, Exhibit A. The closure area is located within Township 22S, Range 13W, Sections 24, 26, and 35 in Douglas County, Oregon.
EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with FS Permit No. FS-7700-48, (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for a corporation or imprisonment for not more than six months or both
(16 USC Section 551; 18 USC Sections 3551, 3571, and 3581).
