Mount Thielsen Sno-Park

Mt. Thielsen Trailhead is the most direct route to summit iconic Mt. Thielsen. In the winter, this trailhead is a sno-park, with cross-country skiing being a popular snowy recreation activity. This trailhead provides access to Mt. Thielsen Trail #1456, Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000, and Spruce Ridge Trail #1458. There are no garbage services at this trailhead/sno-park, so please be prepared to pack out your trash.

Oregon State Sno-Park Parking Permit required November 1 through April 30
Recreation Passes may be used as a form of fee payment from May 1 through October 31.

  • Quiet hours between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 
  • Campfires allowed in developed fire pits when conditions allow. Please see current Alerts and Fire Danger Status at the top of this page. Learn more about current fire information on the Umpqua National Forest. 
  • Fireworks are prohibited. 
  • OHV/ATV use prohibited in the campground. 
  • Maximum length of stay anywhere on the forest is 14 days.

$5 per vehicle per day
$30 per annual
Oregon State Sno-Park Permit required November 01 - April 30:
$4 per vehicle per day
$9 per three day (consecutive)
$25 per annual

Directions

From Roseburg, OR, take OR-138 E / NE Diamond Lake Boulevard.  Follow Highway 138 east to milepost 81.5 (1.5 miles north of the Highway 230 / Highway 138 road junction near Diamond Lake).

The Mt. Thielsen Trailhead / Sno-Park parking lot is located along the east side of Highway 138.

Umpqua National Forest Recreation Map reference number is L-6. Located at Township 28 south, Range 5 1/2 east, Section 16.
