Restrictions on Domestic Sheep or Goats within the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), the following prohibition is established within the entire Hells Canyon National Recreation Area of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. This order will become effective May 1, 2023, and will remain in effect until May 1, 2026 unless rescinded sooner.
Prohibitions:
- Possessing, storing, or transporting any domestic sheep or goat. 36 CFR 261.58(s). Area Affected by this Order The area affected by this order is all Forest Service Lands within the Congressionally designated boundaries of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, See Exhibit A
Exemptions:
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order: \
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both, for each offense. [16 U.S.C. 551 and 18 U.S.C. 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581]
