General Information

Wilderness Permits required for visitors to the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness:
  • Day and Overnight visitors: Central Cascades Wilderness Permit required between Friday of Memorial Day weekend and the last Friday of September; reserve at recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Learn more.
  • Free, unlimited Wilderness self-issue permit required last Saturday of September until October 31 (available at trailhead)

A valid recreation pass may be used as a form of fee payment.

Getting There

Directions

From Detroit, Oregon, follow Highway 22 east for 26 miles to Big Meadows Road (Forest Road 2267) turn left onto Forest Road 2267 and drive 1 mile to the junction with Forest Road 2257, turn left onto Forest Road 2257 and drive 2 miles, you will pass Fay Lake on your right, the trailhead parking is on the left side of the road, trailhead on the right.
