Steel Bridge Campground

Enjoy splashing or fishing in the cool water of Potts Creek, a stocked trout stream adjacent to this rustic campground and day use area. The campground has three unpaved and well-shaded campsites situated along a single dirt road that parallels the creek. A parking area is available for day-use visitors. Historic Paint Bank, Virginia is a scenic three-mile drive from here.

Reservations

Sites are color-coded:  White, Red, and Blue.

  • Maximum occupancy for “White” Campsite is 10 people and three vehicles.
  • Maximum occupancy for “Red” and "Blue” Campsites is 25 people and 10 vehicles per site.
  • Larger groups (over 25 people) must reserve more than one site.

Maximum Consecutive Stay

  • Camping allowed for 14 nights maximum. 

Minimum Stay

  • To book a reservation requires one night minimum stay.

Maximum Reservations per Transaction

  • You may pay for up to three reservations at one time within the same credit card transaction.

Cancellations

You can cancel the reservation any time before the date of your scheduled arrival. You will receive a refund for your stay, minus the following fees:

  • $10 cancellation fee
  • Any reservation fees (only if paid when booking)
  • Any previous change fees

General Information

The area adjacent to the creek is designated day-use only, no overnight camping. 

April 1 - November 1

Check-in for campers is 1:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m.

When recreating on Forest Service Lands, follow the safety and outdoor ethics recommendations. 

The America the Beautiful Senior and Access Passes provide a 50% discount to the base campsite fee.

No recreation fee required, but reservation fees apply

Please, keep your pet on a leash when in a recreation area or campground. The law requires dog owners to keep their dog on a leash with a length no greater than 6 feet and under physical control when within a recreational area, such as a campground or day use area (36 CFR 2616(j)).

Directions

From I-81: Take Exit 141 onto SR 419 north to SR 311. Travel north on SR 311 36 miles to Paint Bank. Take right on SR 18, and then go 3.5 miles to campground on right. All roads are paved until you reach the campground. Driving distance from I-81 is about 40 miles; estimated driving time is 1 hour.
