  • USDA Forest Service Responds to Ice Storm Impacts on National Forest Lands

USDA Forest Service crews are clearing debris and restoring access on National Forest System lands in north Mississippi, including the Delta and the Holly Springs National Forest, after last week’s ice storm.

Downed trees, hanging limbs and icy roads remain hazardous. Crews are prioritizing emergency routes and critical infrastructure while assessing damage to roads, trails and recreation sites. Public safety is the top priority.

Visitors should avoid affected forest roads until hazards are removed. Roads that appear clear may still be dangerous due to ice and unstable trees. Never approach downed power lines; assume they are live. Please call the Holly Springs National Forest at (662) 236-6550.

Current status: All roads and sites are closed or intermittently inaccessible. Conditions may change quickly as temperatures fluctuate. Updates will be posted as work progresses.

    Forest Service actions include:

    • Clearing debris from priority roads
    • Assessing damage to roads, bridges, trails and facilities
    • Identifying hazardous trees and limbs
    • Coordinating with local, state and utility partners

The Forest Service asks visitors to respect closures and give crews space to work.
