Roan Mountain Recreation Area Closure

Roan Mountain Recreation Area will have several improvements made to the site thanks to Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) funding. GAOA funds allow the Forest Service to address deferred maintenance and improvements for the Recreation Area include well and waterline replacement, asphalt resealing, a new sign plan, and overlook re-decking. This work is occurring during the spring and summer due to the extreme weather present during winter at the site.

Areas that are closed for public safety include the Recreation Area, the road to the Recreation Area, Cloudland trail, Rhododendron Gardens, and Cloudland site. The Appalachian Trail and Carvers Gap remain open, but parking is extremely limited at Carvers Gap. Thank you for your patience as we make these critical improvements.
