Visitors to the Sam Houston and Davy Crockett National Forests should plan ahead and use extra caution as the first phase of Heavy Road Maintenance associated with disaster recovery efforts across the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas begins the week of June 23.

Work will begin on Forest Service Road 234 on the Sam Houston National Forest and Forest Service Road 544 on the Davy Crockett National Forest.

During this time, visitors may encounter:

• Heavy equipment and machinery
• Haul trucks and increased traffic
• Temporary traffic control and travel delays

These improvements are part of ongoing disaster recovery efforts to repair and restore forest infrastructure impacted by previous storm events and improve access for visitors and management activities.

Please slow down, use caution when traveling through active work areas, and always obey all posted road closure signs and directions from workers on site.
