Allegheny National Forest Spring Prescribed Fire Plan

(Warren, Pa., March 6, 2026) — Allegheny National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations this spring, pending required approvals. This work is estimated to begin  between April 1 and May 15, as weather conditions allow. Prescribed fire reduces wildfire risk and minimizes potential environmental, economic, and public health impacts. These operations can be used to reduce hazardous fuels, improve ecological health and manage habitat. 

Prescribed fires planned for the area include:

• 129 acres near Pleasant Drive, 5.5 miles southwest of Warren. 
• 2,044 acres just south of Tracy Ridge Recreation Area along Pennsylvania Route 321, twenty miles southwest of Bradford. 

These areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. 

During active burning, smoke and flames may be visible from roads and in areas downwind of the burn site.  For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

Stay informed about the scheduled prescribed fires through InciWeb, the interagency incident information system, the forest website, and social media channels. We will notify county emergency management officials when burning begins and operations conclude.
