David R. Obey Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center Will Open on Mondays Starting June 1

Ashland, WI, May 13, 2026 — The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is expanding summer operating hours at the David. R. Obey Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. The Visitor Center will be open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting June 1, 2026, through October 2026.

“We are excited to be open on Mondays this summer,” said Visitor Center Director Lauren Romstad, “to provide information services and recreational opportunities to visitors and the local community.”

The Visitor Center is a unique multi-agency facility, owned by the Forest Service and operated through partnerships with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Wisconsin Historical Society, University of Wisconsin-Extension, and Friends of the Center Alliance Limited (Ltd). 

The Visitor Center provides information services, interactive exhibits, a theater showing a variety of films (by request), and almost two miles of trails, all free of charge. Rooms are available for use by groups for mission-related programs and meetings.
