  • McCormack Lake, Markham Springs and Beaver Lake Low Water Levels

Visitors to McCormack Lake, Beaver Lake, and Markham Springs mill pond may notice lower water levels than normal. Be aware that lowering of water levels can leave slick mud or other trip hazards that aren’t normally encountered. Please be extra careful walking around the edge of the lakes during periods of drawdown.

Mark Twain National Forest will conduct assessments and needed repairs on control structures when the water is lowered. Invasive aquatic plants will also be removed, improving fish habitat.

No long-term closures at these sites are planned at this time; but some temporary closures may occur during times when heavy equipment is in operation. If heavy equipment is operating, stay a safe distance away and follow closure signage for your safety.
