Forest Road 296 closed as of October 7th, 2024

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service will be closing Forest Road 296 beginning October 7th, 2024. The Monongahela National Forest is partnering with Trout Unlimited to improve an undersized road stream crossing on Forest Road 296 to better allow for aquatic passage of the Laurel Run tributary. This construction will make the road impassible. The exact area of closure would be from the intersection of FR 296 and FR 797 to County route 11 (known as Auto Rd). The Monongahela National Forest appreciates the public’s understanding and visitors should expect some disruptions and short-term road closures while workers secure safer, smoother access to this area.
