Federally Recognized Tribes with Ancestral Ties to Ohio
The following are present day Federally recognized American Indian Tribes with known or possible ancestral ties to Ohio. This is not a comprehensive list, as there have been other peoples who have lived here whose current-day cultural affiliations or ties have been lost to history. However, we aim to provide as comprehensive of a list as possible.
Contemporary Treaty of Greenville Signatory Tribes
The 1795 Treaty of Greenville—which formerly ceded Indigenously-controlled southern Ohio lands to the United States—was signed by the Chippewa, Delaware, Eel River, Kaskaskia, Kickapoo, Miami, Ottawa, Piankishaw, Potawatomi, Shawnee, Wea, and Wyandot Tribes.
